The garden of the soul. A manual of spiritual exercises and instructions for Christians who aspire to perfection
Author: Challoner, Richard, 1691-1781
Published: 1869 by Felix E. O’Rourke, 45 Barclay Street, NYC

Richard Challoner (29 September 1691 – 12 January 1781) was an English Roman Catholic bishop, a leading figure of English Catholicism during the greater part of the 18th century. He is perhaps most famous for his revision of the Douay Rheims translation of the Bible. In 1740 he brought out a new prayer book for the laity,” The Garden of the Soul “, which has proven a popular work of Catholic devotion.

A ‘prayer book’ is a book containing prayers and devotional readings, for private or communal use, often outlining the liturgy of religious services.  Designed for the Roman Catholic faithful, this prayer book includes the Table of Movable Feasts; Evening Devotions for Families: the Litany of the Blessed Virgin; the Ordinary of the Mass; and many other devotions and prayers.

From Madonna to Deepak Chopra, celebrities have been recording and embracing Rumi's poetry for the past two decades, creating a resurgence of interest in this 13th century Sufi mystic.

Rumi's Little Book of Life is a beautiful collection of 196 poems by Rumi, previously unavailable in English. Translated by native Persian speakers, Maryam Mafi and Azima Melita Kolin, this collection will appeal to Rumi lovers everywhere.

This collection of mystical poetry focuses on one of life's core issues: coming to grips with the inner life. During the course of life, each of us is engaged on an inner journey. Rumi's Little Book of Life is a guidebook for that journey. The poetry is a companion for those who consciously enter the inner world to explore the gardens within--out of the everyday "world of dust"--through an ascending hierarchy that restores one's soul to the heart; the heart of the spirit; and in finding spirit, transcending all.
