As the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) Board of Education (BOE) continues its discussions of 10 major issues within the district, misconceptions continue to circulate among concerned parents.

No decisions on redistricting or the other factors being explored will be made until February 2005. In fact, most recently Superintendent Judith Pastel has renamed what was previously the "Redistricting Study" and is now calling it the "Demographic and Building Usage Study," a component of which is redistricting. Yet, the Ithaca Times has gone back to look at redistricting in the city's history courtesy of past BOE members and school administrators.

There have been two redistricting procedures at ICSD in the past 30 years. The first, which occurred in the mid-1970s, was a result of the end of the Baby Boom era.
