Following the Wolverine Volume 1 mini-series, Wolverine gets his FIRST own ongoing series. The series follows the Wolverine through his toughest adventures. It lasted for 189 issues after which it was revamped into Wolverine Vol.2 the following month.

Note : Although the official Marvel website notes this as Wolverine Volume 2 (following the mini-series), each issue of this volume is named volume 1 in the actual comics.

Part 1 of 3 - "Swordquest!" Written by Chris Claremont. Art by John Buscema and Klaus Janson. Wolvie slices through a pile of pirate slavers, and on his way to Mandripoor discovers a plot by the Black Blade to obtain the legendary Muramasa Sword. John Byrne art on back cover. NOTE: 1st appearance of Wolverine as Patch. Cover price $1.50.

Part 2 of 3 -"Possession is the Law!" Written by Chris Claremont. Art by John Buscema and Klause Janson. It seems everyone wants the Muramasa Sword, including Wolverine's old foe, the Silver Samurai. Bad thing is Jessica Drew (former and future Spider-Woman) controls the sword and is possessed by its dark power. Bill Sienkiewicz art on back cover. 32 pages, FC Cover price $1.50.

Part 3 of 3 - "The Black Blade!" Written by Chris Claremont. Art by John Buscema and Al Williamson. Oh no, Wolverine is possessed by the Black Blade and is about to sacrifice Jessica Drew, unless McCabe and Silver Samurai can stop him.
