Today is probably not the best day to give a quick overview on some of the lakes in the Black Forest – considering that we are in the middle of fall! The first snow is here and Feldberg is covered in 15 cm of white fluffy snow. But why not start dreaming of hot summer days to spend on the shore of a nice cool lake? So here we go:

If you’ve visited the Black Forest already, there is a pretty high chance that you’ve been to lake Titisee .  Being the largest natural lake, Titisee is THE hot spot in the Black Forest – a high altitude spa resort with plenty of fancy hotels catering to anyone seeking wellness, relaxation and the outdoors.

Yachting? Taking a cruise? Surfing? Swimming? Boating? Sunbathing? anything is possible at Titisee.  In winter some parts of the lake are even open of iceskating.  But if you don’t feel like being one of the 2 mio visitors per year you might want to venture out a bit and discover some of the lesser-known lakes. Believe me – there are plenty of them. During one of our typical Black Forest sightseeing tours we’ll give you the opportunity to see as many lakes as you like!

Lakes stocked with 2,500 pounds of ‘catchable’ rainbow trout
Watch Vail Daily’s On the Hill  to see fish being released and what the area looked like July 9, 2015.

Eagle River Water and Sanitation District completed the second and final stocking of 2,500 pounds of rainbow trout on July 9 into Black Lakes, which are located adjacent to Interstate 70 near the Vail Pass exit. The district first stocked the lakes June 10, also with 2,500 pounds of rainbow trout.

The trout are raised by a Boulder-based fishery that is licensed and health-inspected by the Colorado Department of Agriculture and Colorado Parks and Wildlife, which annually tests the fishery’s trout to ensure each lot is healthy and free of disease. The fishery estimates the 2,500 pounds amounts to more than 1,000 fish of 9- to 16-inches in length.

And as if the view wasn’t enough and you actually are here to fish and catch something, you’re likely in luck. Because of an agreement with the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District stocks the Black Lakes with 2500 pounds or more of “catchable rainbow trout” about 9-16 inches long in both June and early July. It’s a great place for stillwater fly fishing, and besides the rainbow trout, you may get lucky and get a Brook trout, cutthroat trout or brown trout. Just be sure to check with a local angling shop or Colorado Parks and Wildlife before you head out so you’re up to date on the regulations.
