WEFOUNDThe Fiddle Fancier's Guide: A Manual Of Information Regarding Violins, Violas, Basses And Bows Of Classical And Modern Times (1892)

While going through John's archive, the family has discovered over 60 handwritten music journals he had been using to compose fiddle tunes since the early '80s. Katie Harford Hogue tell us, "There are hundreds of tunes in these journals; it's fascinating to look through them. Dad amassed a lot of research and he was a prolific creator. One of the interesting challenges we've had over the years is figuring out how to take his unfinished projects and ideas and develop them into 'new' material to continue his legacy. The fiddle book idea has been bouncing around ever since we discovered the journals."

The Park Slope Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Jamboree's Brown Jug Award is the brainchild of James Reams, a bluegrass musician and bandleader for over 20 years, who conceived of it as a way to recognize people in the Northeast whose impact on the music deserved to be honored but who might be less likely to be recognized by national organizations since for some of them, their impact was regional in nature.

The Smithville Fiddlers' Jamboree has a new President and Coordinator. Born in Gainesboro and raised in the Bloomington Springs Community of Putnam Co. Sam Stout was elected to the position at a meeting of Jamboree board on Thursday night, February 9. Stout succeeds Jack Barton, who resigned as Jamboree President and Coordinator on February 2, after a nine-year tenure.
