Always in motion, Marvel's Star Wars comic book line is. At the Lucasfilm Publishing panel at SDCC today, it was revealed that Marvel's next Star Wars mini-series will focus on fan-favorite villain Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Star Wars: Thrawn is an adaptation of Timothy Zahn's novel of the same name, which was released in April 2017. This comic book adaptation will be handled by two veterans of Marvel's Star Wars line, writer Jody Houser (Star Wars: Rogue One Adaptation) and artist Luke Ross (Star Wars: Darth Maul). The mini-series will debut in February 2018.

Like the novel, the Thrawn comic will explore the titular character's rise through the Imperial ranks and how he honed his fearsome reputation in the years leading up to his first in-canon appearance in the Star Wars: Rebels animated series. It's not clear how closely the comic will follow the structure of the novel and if, like Rogue One, Houser will expand on the original story with new material.

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm and announced their intentions to do away with a majority of the Star Wars Extended Universe stories so that they could establish their own continuity, many fans were rightfully upset.

The concern was that a lot of the stories they love, cherish, and grew up with no longer mattered—dashed to the wind. And while there is a lot to pick and choose from in the greater Extended Universe of stories, few resonated with people like Timothy Zahn ’s Thrawn trilogy.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is opening today to rave reviews (it currently sits at 93% fresh on site aggregator Rotten Tomatoes , and you can read our very own reviews of the movie here ), but after you've seen the movie a bazillion times and are wondering how to keep that Star Wars spirit alive, SYFY WIRE has compiled a list of seven essential Star Wars novels that are must-reads for fans everywhere.

Yes, there are hundreds of Star Wars novels out there (some considered canon and others no longer so), so we've compiled a list of what we consider the best stories set in a galaxy far, far away.

First (or, rather, number seven on our list) is Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel, Heir to the Empire . Taking place after the events of Return of the Jedi , the book gave birth to what was formerly known as the expanded universe, now redubbed Star Wars Legends (all the books became no longer canon when Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012) and introduced fan faves Mara Jade and Grand Admiral Thrawn .
