In the first half, researchers Mark Musick and Douglas Wellman joined Richard Syrett to discuss the history-changing story of Eva McLelland and her reclusive life married to a mystery man she discovered was Howard Hughes. Wellman described Hughes as a genius who was on the cutting edge of everything from aviation to satellite communication. According to Wellman, Hughes annoyed everyone with whom he worked and his life was eventually overrun by lawyers. He vanished from public life and replaced himself with body doubles, Wellman revealed, noting the last photo taken of Hughes was in 1954.

Hughes began using body double Brucks Randell in 1957, Wellman continued. Even Hughes' chief aide did not physically see him from 1958 through 1973, he added. According to Musick, people either saw a charming, healthy, in command Hughes or what appeared to be a drug-addicted, mentally incompetent man."We have two separate Hughes characters: the one he's got to throw people off his trail and the one who shows up when he has to in order to keep his businesses running," Wellman said.

Only five aides, including Bill Gay, knew the whole story, Musick disclosed. He reported on his first meeting with Eva McLelland, who he met in 2001 after her husband had died. McLelland confessed that she had been married to Hughes, who had changed his appearance as well as his name. Musick pointed out that her story was consistent every time she told it and his investigation supported what she had told him. "I concluded after four years of really not believing [McLelland]... what's she telling me is absolutely the truth," Musick said.

Howard Hughes, the son of Howard Robard Hughes , was born in Houston on 24th December, 1905. Howard's father was the founder of founder of the Hughes Tool Company. His brother, Rupert Hughes , worked as a writer for Samuel Goldwyn's movie studios. His mother, Allene Gano , came from a prosperous family that were considered to be "monarchs of Dallas society".

In 1908 Howard Robard Hughes patented a two-cone rotary drill bit that penetrated medium and hard rock with ten times the speed of any former bit, and its discovery revolutionized oil well drilling. The following year he joined forces with Walter Benona Sharp to establish the Sharp-Hughes Tool Company in Houston. After the death of Sharp in 1912, Hughes took full control of the company that now became known as the Hughes Tool Company .

Hughes attended private school in Boston before moving to the Thacher School in California. According to the principal's son, Anson Thacher, Hughes was "the brightest student in physics the school had in years". Although he idolized his physics teacher, Owen McBride, he was a poor student and never graduated from high school. However, his father arranged for him to attend the Rice University in Houston by donating money to the institution.

Newly declassified documents reveal new information about the CIA's Project Azorian, a plan hatched to secretly salvage a Soviet nuclear submarine.

In 1974, the CIA commissioned Howard Hughes to construct a massive vessel to recover a Soviet submarine that sank in the Pacific Ocean in 1968.

Some 200 pages on Project Azorian, one of the most complex, expensive, and secretive intelligence operations of the Cold War, reveal previously unknown details of the aborted plan.

As CEO of real estate developer Howard Hughes Corporation, David Weinreb is the public face of the company’s projects, including the ongoing redevelopment of the South Street Seaport.

But his own residence is on the other side of Manhattan, in West Chelsea — where he is the secret buyer of a $38.05 million penthouse at the Norman Foster-designed 551 W. 21st St., Gimme Shelter can reveal.

The condo is being delivered as an unfinished “white box,” with nearly 6,400 square feet of interior space and a 4,579-square-foot private rooftop terrace, which boasts its own 61-foot pool.
