Playing the slide guitar isn't as intimating as it may sound at first. With a little bit of knowledge and a few slide guitar lessons you'll be playing well in no time. Making music with slides has been popular for over a hundred years and is a favorite tool among the blues musicians, jazz, country, and soul artists.

Slides are made from metal, glass, or plastic and it is possible to make a slide at home by using the top of a glass bottle but be sure not to cut yourself in the process. In the past, musicians even used bones to make home made slides.

Musicians often find playing with a slide to be a tad difficult because they can't mute as many strings and the object itself can feel weighted until the player gets used to making music with a slide.

Slide Guitar Basics is a free lesson for slide guitar by Jody Worrell. This lesson will cover some beginner concepts that are necessary for learning how to play slide guitar. First we’ll look at how to play the strings with your right hand fingers. Using your fingers instead of a pick will give you more control over which notes can be heard and for how long. Then we’ll look at the left hand and discuss how to wear the slide, vibrato, and other techniques. To learn more, check out Jody’s Easy Allman Brothers Style premium lesson.
